When I first experienced gynecologic oncology, I was a 3rd year medical student on a rotation which exposed students to various field of oncology. I was placed to gynecologic oncology which allowed the unique opportunity to perform surgeries, administer chemotherapy, coordinate cancer care and develop long lasting relationships with patients. It was during this rotation I had an “a ha” moment and I knew that practicing in the field of gynecologic oncology was my calling.
Since that time, I have had the privilege of taking care of women from a diverse background of ages, race, ethnicities and religion. I have taken care of women both in Michigan and Maryland. I have most recently moved my clinical practice from Maryland to Washington D.C. to MedStar Washington Hospital Center. I will continue to take of women with gynecologic malignancies in the greater Washington, D.C. area the Washington Cancer Institute.
I have the opportunity to continue offering my surgical skills including DaVinci assisted hysterectomy but also comprehensive care with administration of chemotherapy for women who need additional treatment of their cancer. The Washington Cancer Institute offers support from physicians across disciplines such as radiation oncology, urologic oncology and surgical oncology. I am very pleased with the opportunity to contain care “under one roof” similar to Roswell Park Cancer Institute. I am hopeful to bring clinical trials for gynecologic oncology patients in Washington D.C. in the near future.
It was not easy for me to leave my previous practice in Montgomery County Maryland. I felt that I was abandoning my patients especially my patients that I developed a close relationship during diagnosis, surgery and treatment. I ultimately resolved this feeling of grief knowing that I can offer greater level of comprehensive cancer care in the Washington Cancer Institute shortly down the road in Washington, D.C. I welcome old and new patients!
